3.5 GHz | New 2 Watt option for the handheld transmitter “ILLUMINATOR”

Consultix boosts its multi-mode test transmitter “ILLUMINATOR” with more RF power from 3.4 to 3.8 GHz.
The new built-in amplifier option “iL-P3” provides 2-Watt CW signal and up to 27 dBm LTE signal to cover most of indoor applications such as pre-build site survey, model calibration, post-build coverage mapping or DAS commissioning.

3.5 GHz: The Opportunity, the Challenge and the Solution
There’s a global paradigm movement to free chunks of spectrum around 3.5 GHz for unlicensed or “lightly licensed” use. This undergoing harmonization could soon make the 3.5 GHz band one of the first universal bands for both LTE and 5G.

Although carriers are not going to invest significantly in the middleprise segment, however the new band is going to unleash cost-effective business models for neutral hosts and building owners. And this will enable new use cases and augment user experience in millions of buildings such as enterprises, hotels, retail stores, education campuses, industrial sites, hospitals and residential buildings etc.

Although the RF characteristics of the 3.5 GHz band make it ideal for 5G in general and very promising for indoor applications, however the band has its challenges. Channel characterization and modeling are prominent ones during the planning phase. Radio waves experience significant extra losses on 3.5 GHz than lower GHz bands. Hence, radio planning engineers need to refine their past RF instinct and verify their selected RF model via real measurements for each new venue with specific aspects.

Now, the ILLUMINATOR together with the MRX receiver comprise a full handheld CW walk-test setup from a few hundred MHz up to the upper portion of the 3.5 GHz band.

Equip your teams, sharpen your competitive edges and get ready for the 3.5 GHz momentum.
